Australia’s AusTex Oil has hit hydrocarbons in the Pratt-1 well on the Cooper project in Sheridan County, Kansas.

AusTex said the well encountered free oil and gas in the Toronto formation, between 3827 and 3862 feet.

It added a drill stem test was now underway to test the zone before drilling will continue through the Topeka and Lansing Kansas City formations to its planned total depth of 4400 feet.

AusTex holds a 53% working interest and 43.5% net revenue interest in the Cooper project.
