West Atlas firms up Australian date

By Upstream staff

Methanol Australia and Coogee Resources have executed the letter of intent for Seadrill’s newbuild jack-up West Atlas, which is currently under construction at Singapore’s Keppel Fels yard.

The jack-up, which is due for delivery in late 2007, will drill two firm wells for Methanol Australia in NT/P68, starting with the Heron-2 appraisal well on the Epenarra structure.

This will be followed by the Blackwood-1 exploration well. Compagnie General de Geophysique will acquire during November this year about 600 line kilometres of infill 2D seismic that will be used to improve the structural mapping of Blackwood and confirm the final well location.

The company added that the option for a third well may be exercised following analysis of the results from the Heton-2 well.

Once the wells are completed, the jack-up will be handed over to Coogee for the remainder of its 12-month contract.
