Transmeridian extends Kazakh stay

By Upstream staff

Houston-based Transmeridian Exploration said it had received a two-year extension for its exploration contract for the South Alibek Field in Kazakhstan.

The contract will now run until the end of April 2009, the company said.

Under the renewed contract, the company will be able to continue exploration within the 14,000-acre South Alibek licence area to increase the 3500 acres approved for development of the South Alibek field. Transmeridian must undertake a minimum work programme worth $28 million.

Transmeridian is focussed on E&P in the Caspian basin.
