Buccaneer hires Marathon rig

Deal: Marathon's Glacier Driling Rig 1 had a strong team behind it, Buccaneer said.

Houston-based Buccaneer Energy has signed a deal with Marathon Oil for the use of Glacier Drilling Rig 1 on Buccaneer’s Kenai Loop project in Alaska’s Cook basin.

In an announcement, Buccaneer said the rig was being re-located to enable final movement to the drill site without delay, and to facilitate final preparations for the upcoming project.

The Company expects that the well will spud next month once drill site construction is completed, but will formally announce the expected spud date once all arrangements have been finalised.

The first well on the Loop will be a step-out well from the Kenai Cannery Loop field, while the company was applying for permits on three drilling locations.
