Lundin postpones Caspian drilling

By Upstream staff

Sweden's Lundin Petroleum has decided to delay drilling of its two well drilling programme in the Caspian Lagansky Block until the second quarter of 2007 due to the onset of winter.

The company said that delays during the building of the specialised drilling complex needed to drill the well, which has since been completed, meant that the two well drilling programme will start next year.

Lundin boss Ashley Heppenstall said: “We originally planned to drill the Morskoye prospect this year and have made good progress with our construction activities.

“However we have decided due to the impending onset of winter coupled with our desire to obtain full technical information from the well, to delay our drilling program until next year.”
