Total scores Angola hat-trick

Celebrations: off Angola

French explorer Total said it has struck its third discovery on prolific Block 17/06 in deep water off Angola.

The Canna-1 well, drilled in a water depth of 445 metres in the north-eastern part of the block, hit a Miocene pay zone that flowed more than 5000 barrels per day of 33-degrees API oil during a production test.

The latest hit follows the earlier Begonia and Gardenia finds on the block, which is operated by Total with a 30% stake.

State-owned Sonangol is the block’s concessionaire with a 30% interest while other partners include Sinopec, Acrep, Falcon Oil and Partex Oil & Gas.
