Feeling the heat: fires force Canadian Natural Resources into shut-in

A “major forest fire” has forced Canadian Natural Resources to shut-in numerous assets in Alberta as raging infernos continue to threaten the region’s oil sands industry.

The company may also have to shut another, more productive field while a pipeline system serving yet another field is being taken offline.

“In the Slave Lake area of North Central Alberta, Canadian Natural today performed a controlled shut-in of various properties within the aerial extent of a major forest fire,” the company wrote in a statement on Tuesday. The properties had been producing a daily average of 3125 barrels of oil and 8 million cubic feet of natural gas.
