Norway's Deputy Oil & Energy Minister Per Rune Henriksen today made a plea for global gas consumption, claiming the fuel is part of the global energy solution.

"In my view gas is an excellent energy source both today and in the future," said Henriksen at the 16th European Gas Conference in Oslo.

"Nevertheless, the reality is that over the last few years gas has been named as one of the culprits... gas has been put into a big black box labelled 'bad' with all other fossil fuels. But there are considerable differences.

"Today I would like to plead the case for gas."
