Total in 'major' Caspian gas hit

Azeri joy: Christophe de Margerie-led Total makes major Caspian Sea gas discovery

French supermajor Total has unearthed a "major gas discovery" at a play in the Caspian Sea off Azerbaijan.

The company revealed on Friday that is has encountered "more than 500 feet of cumulated net gas pays" at Absheron X-2 well on the eponymous block.



"The well’s first results confirm a potential of several trillion cubic feet of gas and associated condensates," a statement on Friday read.



The find was made in what Total termed "high quality sands" on the northern part of the structure which is spread out over 270 square kilometres.
