Didon-5 pumps up volume

By Upstream staff

Swedish explorer PA Resources has finished work on Didon-5, a horizontal production well at the Didon field off Tunisia, with the new well expected to pump more than 12,000 barrels of oil per day.

PA said drilling was delayed due to technical problems, but the final results were positive as the reservoir properties were better than expected.

The well, drilled by the jack-up drilling rig Ocean Spur, penetrated over 1200 metres of the reservoir - 800 metres more than previous production wells on the field - and the reservoir properties were found to be better than expected along the well path.

However, PA said drilling the horizontal drain took longer than planned, mainly due to technical difficulties at the start of the drilling and equipment failures.

Didon-5 was initially estimated to have a production capacity of 12,000 bpd, but based on the very good reservoir properties, this level is expetced to rise.

PA is now completing the well and plans to bring it on stream next month. Didon-5 will be the first well producing through the new Didon platform facilities.

The Didon-6 production well will spud early next month.

PA Resources is operator and has a working interest of 100% in the Didon field.
