Salvage begins on Hercules liftboat

Waterspout: Hercules Offshore liftboat capsizes after being struck by waterspouts off Louisiana

Salvage efforts have begun on a Hercules Offshore-owned liftboat that capsized after it was struck by “multiple waterspouts” late last week about 30 miles south-west of Port Fourchon, Louisiana.

Five crewmembers were able to evacuate from the 140-class liftboat Starfish and were later rescued at sea, Hercules said in a statement on Monday.

They were treated for minor injuries and released from a hospital in Houma, Louisiana, the statement said.

The incident occurred at the Ship Shoal Block 116 late in the evening of 30 September.

Shortly after the incident, Hercules mobilised another nearby liftboat to monitor the condition of the Starfish and to coordinate salvage efforts, which are being undertaken by Alabama-based Inland Salvage.
