USCG: Oil sheens not from Transocean rig

Mystery sheens: Coast Guard said Transocean not responsible for unidentified sheens -- like this one observed by the Mobile Press-Register -- near the Macondo oil site

The US Coast Guard and Transocean found no evidence of oil seepage from the wreckage of the Deepwater Horizon rig after an ROV inspection this week, the agency said Tuesday.

The trip was made on 4 and 5 October, according to a statement from Petty Officer Elizabeth Bordelon.

“Coast Guard experts viewed the feed from the ROV and all agreed that nothing shown in the feed provided any indication that there was release of oil from the riser, the fuel tanks or any other debris at the wreckage site,” the statement said.

“No discharge or leaking from the riser or the wreckage was observed.”

There was also no oil found that could be sampled, the Coast Guard said.
