Exporters: ExxonMobil looks to expoert LNG as Chesapeake boss hopes US will not have to

Supermajor ExxonMobil is actively assessing options to export LNG from North America, an official said, while the boss of rival gas producer Chesapeake said he hopes the US does not start shipping gas abroad.

"In terms of exports from North America, whether it is the Gulf Coast or whether it is Western Canada, it's something we're actively looking at," Andrew Swiger, senior vice president of ExxonMobil, said at a Bank of America Merrill Lynch investors conference, according to a Reuters report.

The North American market is different from places where ExxonMobil has LNG projects because the gas is not stranded without a viable market, so the company is mulling options, Swiger said in remarks broadcast on the Internet.
