Shahd flows oil for Sipetrol

By Upstream staff

Enap subsidiary Sipetrol has struck oil with the Shahd-1 exploration well in the East Ras Qattara concession onshore Egypt.

The well flowed at initial rates of between 700 barrels and 1000 barrels of 39 degrees to 41 degrees API oil during a drill stem test over the Lower Bahariya formation.

The company is also planning to carry out a drill stem test in the Upper Bahariya formation.

Shahd-1 is the first of two back-to-back wells in the block.

Partners in the concession are Sipetrol (50.5%) and Oil Search (49.5%).
