Pemex makes Gulf gas hit

Gulf strike: Pemex finds gas in Gulf of Mexico well

Pemex has pointed to "great potential" at an exploration well in the Gulf of Mexico after coming up trumps with a natural gas find.

The Mexican state-owned oil giant says that tests at the Nen 1 well off Veracruz has proven, probable and possible reserves of "around 400 billion cubic feet of gas".

The well, located in the Catemaco Fold Belt, has estimated production of 27 million cubic feet per day, Pemex wrote in a statement published in Spanish on Thursday.

"The assessment derived from geophysical logs, dynamic testers and core training and background wall, positively identified three sites that together represent a net thickness of about [164 feet] of oil impregnated."
