Norwegian yard Bergen Group BMV has won a Nkr17 million ($2.8 million) contract from Rieber Shipping to refit seismic newbuild Polar Duchess before the vessel starts work for TGS in the North Sea this summer.

The rebuilding work includes installation of new seismic equipment and is set to start immediately, implying the vessel has now been delivered to the Bergen-based builder from Spain’s Factorias Vulcano yard where it was built.

Norwegian seismic contractor Dolphin Geophysical has chartered the high-capacity vessel from owner Rieber for an initial firm period of three years, with extension options, and earlier said it will foot the bill for the new equipment kit costing $55 million.
