Pemex alleges supermajors sold stolen fuel

Court case: Pemex is suing ConocoPhillips and Shell for allegedly selling stolen fuel, according to reports

Mexico's state oil company Pemex is suing supermajors ConocoPhillips and Shell for selling stolen fuel, according to US court filings.

Pemex's exploration and production unit last week filed an amended suit that charges that the companies were unwitting traffickers in stolen fuel, Reuters reported on Thursday.

ConocoPhillips and Shell "appear to have been innocent and dealt in the condensate only after it was laundered," court documents state.

Still, Reuters reported Pemex’s attorneys are arguing the companies should be held responsible for the traffic of stolen fuel from Mexico.

Pemex is plagued by fuel thieves who often tap underground pipelines and siphone off condensate for sale on the black market.
