Gas strike: semisub Ensco 5006 finds success for Noble Energy at Tamar prospect

Noble Energy has found gas in a well at its Tanin prospect off Israel in the Mediterranean Sea in a discovery that the US independent said will de-risk other prospects in the vicinity.



The Tanin discovery well, drilled to a depth of 18,212 feet, hit about 130 feet of gas pay in the lower Miocene payzone.

The well is located in the Alon A license in 5100 feet of water, about 13 miles north-west of the Tamar field, which contains a reservoir that is analagous to Tanin.

Noble estimates the discovered resources could fall within a gross range of between 0.9 and 1.4 trillion cubic feet, with a gross mean of 1.2 Tcf.

The well was spudded late last year by the semi-submersible Ensco 5006.
