Settled: Mitsui to pay $90 million to US to settle Macondo liability

Japanese Macondo partner Mitsui has agreed to pay $90 million to settle its liability in the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Department of Justice said on Friday.



The settlement requires Mitsui to pay $70 million in civil penalties for alleged violations of the Clean Water Act, as well as another $20 million to facilitate land acquisition projects and environmental clean-up in several Gulf states, DOJ said in a release on Friday.
