Pacific extends drillship option again

Extended again: Pacific Drilling has until 2 March to decide if it wants a seventh ultra-deepwater drillship to be built

A subsidiary of Pacific Drilling has once again extended its option with Samsung Heavy Industries to build a seventh ultra-deepwater drillship.

Pacific will now have until 2 March to decide if it wants to the South Korean shipyard to go ahead with the high-specification rig.

The Houston- and Singapore-based driller has repeatedly extended the option, most recently until 17 February. That deadline passed and the company has extended the option once more.

If the company decides to go ahead with the order, delivery will come on 17 May 2014.

Pacific has received four ultra-deepwater drillships to date, with another two on order at Samsung for delivery in 2013.
