US rig count jumps by 32

Rig count: Tally springs to 2019

The count of rigs drilling in the US was up by 32 this week to 2019, Houston-based service provider Baker Hughes said Friday.

Rigs drilling for oil gained 35 for a sum of 1196, up from 756 units a year ago as operators seek out tight liquids plays from unconventional sources.

The count of those drilling for gas dropped by two to 818, down from 941 a year ago.

Texas gained the most rigs, adding a whopping 16 to its count for a total of 919. Louisiana’s count increased by five rigs to 151.

Alaska, North Dakota and Oklahoma all gained three rigs for sums of 10, 188 and 199 respectively.

Arkansas gained one rig to total 35.
