Senex spuds second CBM well

On the trail for gas: Senex has spudded its second CBM well on ATP 593P

Brisbane-based Senex Energy has started drilling the second coalbed methane (CBM) exploration well in its two well campaign on ATP 593P, in Queensland’s Surat basin.

Kato-2 is being drilled to a total depth of 285 metres to investigate the CBM potential of the Walloon coal measures.

The first well, Kato-1, was drilled towards the end of last year and “exceeded expectations” after intersecting 9.8 metres of net coal in the Juandah and Taroom coal measures, along with 7.6 metres of net gas bearing carbonaceous shale, during coring.

Senex holds a 45% operated stake in ATP 593P, with fellow Australian company Bow Energy holding the remaining 55% interest.
