Oil States to boost oil sands rooms

By Upstream staff

Oilfield services company Oil States International said today its board had approved plans to spend $58.2 million to expand its accommodation facilities in Alberta's oil sands region.

Oil States said its PTI subsidiary would expand its Athabasca and Beaver River lodges and build a new facility, the Wapasu lodge, making about 1250 additional rooms available to employees of its client companies.

The facilities are located north of Fort McMurray. The Athabasca Lodge will be upgraded from 1100 to 1552 rooms for oil sands workers and contractors. The Beaver River executive lodge will expand from 444 to 732 rooms.

The new Wapasu lodge will open with 589 first-class and executive rooms, but will be expandable to up to 1500 rooms, Oil States said.
