Medgaz wraps up subsea work

Almost ready: the Medgaz pipeline

Work has finished in laying the subsea stretch of the 8 billion cubic metre per year Medgaz pipeline linking Spain and Algeria.



Medgaz said it planned to test the 210 kilometre pipeline between January and March next year, and aims to start pumping gas through the link in the second half of next year from the Beni Saf field in Algeria.

Spain imports more than 99% of its gas needs and is expected to consume about 43.5 Bcm this year. Algeria is Spain's biggest supplier and accounts for about one-third of its imports.
