supermajor’s
Esso
Highlands
subsidiary
which
operates
the
PNG
LNG
development
stopped
work
after
locals
demanding
additional
compensation
from
the
company
for
their
land
threatened
workers
at
the
plant.
ExxonMobil
spokeswoman
Rebecca
Arnold
confirmed
the
shutdown
in
the
Hides
region
of
the
Southern
Highlands,
but
insisted
that
works
were
continuing
in
the
rest
of
the
project
area,
adding
the
project
remained
on
course
to
start
up
in
2014.
Arnold
said
the
police
were
now
involved
in
the
dispute
and
the
company
has
"taken
steps
to
engage
with
the
group
to
understand
their
concerns."
