Sterling spuds Cladhan South

Spinning the bit: Sterling has spudded a well on the Cladhan South prospect

Calgary-based Sterling Resources has spudded a well on the Cladhan South exploration prospect in Block 210/29c in the UK North Sea.

The well is being drilled using the semi-submersible drilling rig Sedco-704 and is targeting an upper Jurassic channelised sand play immediately to the south of the existing Cladhan discovery.

Licence partner Valiant Petroleum estimates the prospect could hold gross prospective resources of 13 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Sterling operates Block 210/29c with a 25% stake, while Valiant holds a 30% interest, Wintershall holds 25% and Angora Oil & Gas holds the remaining 20%.
