African Petroleum secures rig for Liberia campaign

Signed up: African Petroleum has secured the semi-submersible Eirik Raude for a two well campaign off Liberia

Australia-based African Petroleum has signed a contract with Ocean Rigs to charter the semi-submersible Eirik Raude for a two well programme on Blocks 8 and 9 off Liberia.

African Petroleum did not state the value of the deal in Thursday’s release but said the contract also contained an option for a third well.

It said it expected the deep-water rig to start operations in either the third of fourth quarter of the year.

The Eirik Raude can operate in a water depth of up to 10,000 feet and is capable of drilling to a total depth of 30,000 feet.
