US loses 16 rigs

Rig count: Fell by 16 this week

The number of rigs drilling for oil and gas in the US dropped by 16 this week for a total of 1968, Houston-based service provider Baker Hughes said Friday.

The count of rigs drilling for oil dropped by four to 1313, while the number of those drilling for gas decreased by 11 to 652.

Texas and Oklahoma both saw double-digit losses. The Lone Star state dropped 11 rigs for a count of 915, while Oklahoma’s count dropped by 10 to total 197.

Pennsylvania lost three rigs to total 98. Alaska, North Dakota and Wyoming each lost one to total six, 196 and 43 respectively.
