Evacuation: Total suffers gas release at its Elgin-Franklin development in the North Sea

Total is responding to a well control incident that led to a gas release at its Elgin-Franklin development in the North Sea.

The French supermajor confirmed an incident happened at 12:15 UK time on Sunday afternoon at the Elgin production utilities quarters (PUQ) platform.

The jack-up Rowan Viking was alongside the facility on the high-pressure, high-temperature development  at the time of the release.

“A well control problem occurred on the wellhead platform on the Elgin PUQ resulting in a gas release. Work is ongoing to control the release,” Total said.
