Evacuation: the Elgin PUQ has been left unmanned and powered down following a gas leak at the field

Total said it had evacuated all personnel from the Elgin processing, utilities and quarters (PUQ) platform following a well control incident at its Elgin-Franklin development in the North Sea.

Total had initially kept a core crew of 19 onboard the PUQ following initial evacuations but in a release early on Monday said “due to the ongoing nature of the situation offshore” it had made the decision to evacuate the remaining staff leaving the platform unmanned and powered down.

Total announced on Sunday a well control incident on the wellhead platform on the Elgin PUQ had led to a gas release at the field.
