Hess confirms Phu Horm start-up

US energy company Hess has confirmed that it has started natural gas production at its Phu Horm gas field in north-east Thailand.

Production is currently about 60 million cubic feet per day through this is expected to increase to more than 100 MMcfd when additional wells are completed during 2007.

Gas is being supplied to a power station at Nam Phong under a 15-year sales agreement with PTT.

Phu Horm is operated by Hess with a 35% stake. The other partners are APICO (35%), PTTEP (20%) and ExxonMobil (10%). Salamander owns 27.2% of APICO, which gives it an interest of 9.5% in Phu Horm.
