Shell pulls workers near Elgin

Platform incident: Total working to control gas flow

Shell is partially downmanning its Shearwater platform as a precaution due to the ongoing gas release at Total's high-pressure high-temperature Elgin-Franklin field.

The action comes amid reports that workers on offshore platforms several miles away have seen a gas cloud enveloping the Elgin platform.

Shell UK confirmed that a partial downman of personnel is under way at Shearwater as well as at the nearby Noble Hans Deul drilling rig, which is working for the Anglo-Dutch supermajor.

Shearwater is located 225 kilometres east of Aberdeen and four nautical miles from Elgin.
