Akcakoca-3 put to the test

By Upstream staff

US explorer Toreador Resources is planning to test its Akcakoca-3 gas well in the Turkish sector of the Black Sea.

Wireline logs and pressure tests indicated that the well hit 81 metres of net gas-bearing pay in seven zones in the Eocene-age Kusuri formation.

The top of the Kusuri in the Akcakoca-3 is about 500 metres deeper than the same producing formations in the Ayazli-1 discovery well that was drilled in 2004.

Toreador has a 36.75% interest in the project and is the operator in the South Akcakoca sub-basin, Turkey's TPAO has a 51% interest and Stratic has a 12.25% interest.

The company added that it expects initial production to start in January.

The Ayazli platform will be brought online once installation and well completion activities are finished in the first quarter of 2007.
