Petrotrin in Soldado strike

Oil strike: Petrotrin claims biggest find in 10 years

Trinidad & Tobago’s state-run oil producer Petrotrin has made its largest oil find in 10 years with the discovery of an estimated 48 million barrels of oil off Trinidad’s south-west coast.

The find, which prime minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar dubbed Jubilee, lies within the Petrotrin-operated Soldado license on the Trinmar block four miles offshore in about 60 feet of water.

The oil is said to be a mix of both heavy and light crudes.

Petrotrin plans to bring the existing wells on production in the next year and continue to explore prospective reservoirs in the area. …
