Petro-Canada files Fort Hills upgrader plan

By Upstream staff

Petro-Canada and its partners in the Fort Hills oil sands project have filed for permission to build an upgrading facility for the development, the company said today.

The upgrader, to be built near Edmonton, Alberta, will eventually process up to 340,000 barrels per day of crude from oil sands from the northern Alberta development and from other sources.

The start-up date and costs of the project have yet to be disclosed.

Petro-Canada is operator of the project, which mines oil sands north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, with a 55% working interest. UTS Energy holds a 55% stake and TEck Cominco holds a 15% interest.
