Gold Point spies gas pay in South Dakota

By Upstream staff

Vancouver's Gold Point Energy said it had struck gas in the Shannon sandstone at the Spyglass State- 3-30 well in Harding County, South Dakota.

Gold Point said the well had been drilled to 1950 feet and cased by operator Spyglass Cedar Creek. Gas was logged at a depth of about 1600 feet.

"This well confirms the validity of our seismically-based exploration methodology. We still have to establish commerciality of the well through perforation and testing, which is expected to occur prior to year end," said Jack Steinhauser, GP Energy's president.

The well is the fourth of five Spyglass Cedar is drilling for Gold Point.

Gold Point holds a 30% working interest in the first five wells, and a 47.5% stake in the balance of the South Cedar Creek Anticline Project, which comprises 63,532 acres in Harding County, South Dakota.
