A worker died Wednesday when he fell from the derrick of a rig drilling in Gonzalez County, Texas, according to local media reports.

Smith Bits Stats lists US independent EOG Resources as the operator for the rig, which was drilling a development well in the Eagle Ford shale, according to its latest report.

The man, whose name has not been released, fell more than 50 feet from the mast of the Patterson-UTI 235 rig.

EOG Resources confirmed the report but said no further details were available.

A Patterston-UTI representative declined to comment on any aspect of the report.
