Sterling comes up dry at Cladhan South

Nothing but dust: Sterling failed to encounter hydrocarbons in the Cladhan South prospect in the North Sea

Calgary-based Sterling Resources has plugged and abandoned a the Cladhan South exploration prospect, in Block 210/29c, in the UK North Sea.

The well was targeting an upper Jurassic channelised sand play immediately to the south of the existing Cladhan discovery and had been estimated hold gross prospective resources of 13 million barrels of oil equivalent.

However, on Thursday licence partner Valiant Petroleum said that while the well encountered multiple Upper Jurassic sand channels on prognosis, none were thought to be hydrocarbon bearing.

As a result the decision was made to plug and abandon the well.

Sterling operates Block 210/29c with a 25% stake, while Valiant holds a 30% interest, Wintershall holds 25% and Angora…
