Total in Brunei hit

Light on the hill: The find is good news for Total and its block partners.

French energy major Total has hit hydrocarbons with the Julong East deep-water exploration well in Brunei.

The well is drilling ahead in Block CA-01 having already encountered petroleum, according to BHP Billiton's latest quarterly.

No further data was provided.

Julong East is the second of a six exploration wells planned for Block CA-01; the first well Julong Centre was a dry hole.

Total has the ultra-deep water semi-submersible Ensco 8504 on hire at a dayrate of US$423,500.

The owners of Block CA-1 are operator Total (54%), BHP Billiton (22.5%), Hess (13.5%), Petronas (5%)  and Murphy Oil (5%).
