Pipeline debate: Nebraska to take a look at revised proposal that could placate some critics

Nebraska environmental regulators say TransCanada has submitted a new plan for the Keystone XL pipeline that aims to avoid ecologically sensitive areas in the state.

A recently passed bill in the state legislature gives the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality the authority to review major pipeline projects considered at the federal level, the agency said in a statement.

Its examination of the new proposal (read it here) is estimated to take six to nine months, a spokesman said.

“Public participation will be important throughout this review, and NDEQ will make every effort to provide information and invite comment throughout the process,” director Mike Linder said in a statement.
