Moonta gas for Beach

What a rush: Gas at the Moonta-1 well could cover a target zone greater than one kilometre.

Australia’s Beach Energy has found early signs of gas at its Moonta-1 well, on PEL 218 in South Australia’s Cooper basin.

Mud logs from the well indicate that Moonta-1 is gas saturated throughout the Permian target zone, covering multiple intervals over a total target zone of greater than one kilometre.

Drilled by Ensign 916 rig, the well reached its total depth of 3810 metres on 23 April, with gas found stretching from the Toolachee formation to basement at the bottom of the Patchawarra formation.

The rig will spend one more week on the Moonta-1 well site for evaluation and suspension purposes, before moving about 10 kilometres south east to spud the Streaky-1…
