Petrobras confirms Piranema delay

By Upstream staff

Brazilian state oil company Petrobras has confirmed a delay in the start-up of its Piranema offshore field, announcing that the floating production, storage and offloading vessel for the field would only arrive in the country next month.

Petrobras had said earlier it hoped to flow oil from the field by the end of the year. The company then said last week the FPSO would arrive in Brazil in mid-December, BNamericas reported.

Petrobras has leased the round-hulled 30,000-barrel-per-day SSP Piranema from Norway's Sevan Marine. However, Petrobras E&P director Guilherme Estrella said the revolutionary vessel was still in Europe awaiting favourable sailing conditions for its unusual design.

The FPSO also still requires environmental licensing from Brazilian authorities, he said.

Estrella said Petrobras would also drill another two wells on the Piranema field before start-up

Petrobras will use the development as a pilot project for the round-hulled FPSO design.

The Piranema field lies in the north-east of the Sergipe-Alagoas basin.
