Tokyo Gas renews North West LNG deal

By Upstream staff

Japan's biggest gas distributor said today it had agreed to renew and expand its liquefied natural gas supply contract with Australia's North West Shelf Venture.

Tokyo Gas will receive 530,000 tonnes of LNG per year starting for eight years from April 2009, the company said in a statement.

The deal replaces the existing contract which ends in March 2009.

Tokyo Gas also has a separate contract with the venture under which it receives 1.1 million tonnes of LNG a year.

The agreement was reached with six companies comprising the NWS Venture: BHP Billiton Petroleum, BP, Chevron, Japan Australia LNG, Shell and Woodside Energy.
