Namibia bound: HRT takes Transocean Marianas off Africa

Brazil’s HRT Oil & Gas nailed down the charter of a Transocean semi-submersible drilling rig for a drilling programme off Namibia.

The independent has chartered the Transocean Marianas to drill at least four wells off the southern African nation, it said on Wednesday.

Upstream revealed last week that the company was close to inking a deal for the semisub but was in danger of losing out if it did not firm up a contract soon.

HRT remained mum on the dayrate for the rig but said drilling would begin late in the fourth quarter or early next year.

It will be on charter for 280 days which HRT said is “enough to drill at least four exploration wells”.
