Ohio passes drilling regulation bill

Signature: Ohio Governor John Kasich is expected to sign drilling bill into law

Ohio legislators overwhelmingly passed a bill laying out rules for oil and gas drilling in the state that sits above the hot Utica and Marcellus Shale plays.

The Republican-led state House of Representatives approved the new regulations on hydraulic fracturing with a 73-19 vote on Thursday, with 21 Democrats voting in favour. The Senate approved the bill with a 21-8 on 15 May.

The bill is now awaiting action from Governor John Kasich, who is expected to sign it into law.

“We’ll be better stewards of our environment because of it, and our kids and grandkids will thank us for it,” Kasich said of the bill in a statement.
