US rigs gain four

US rigs: up four

The number of oil and gas rigs drilling in the US rose by four this week, according to data from services giant Baker Hughes.

Oil and gas rigs continued to move in opposite directions as drillers focus more on more lucrative oil plays amid stubbornly low gas prices.

There were 28 more rigs drilling for oil this week for a total of 1414. There were 23 fewer gas rigs for a total of 565.

Most states either cumulatively gained rigs this week or remained flat. Arkansas was the only state to lose a rig, shedding one for a total of 21.
