Oil-rich South Sudan is to suspend 75 senior officials as a row over the alleged misappropriation of at least $4 billion of funds rumbles on, a report claims.

The largely unidentified individuals were all recently sent a letter from President Salva Kiir demanding they return sums of cash which he said had been stolen from the country’s coffers.

The BBC reported on Wednesday that only $60 million has so far been returned to the government since the latter was distributed to suspected parties.

Now parliament has voted to suspend all those who received the letter until such time as they are either cleared of any wrongdoing or prosecuted.
