Senex hits more unconventional gas

Bright start: Senex observed high gas readings during drilling of the Talaq-1 well on the southern edge of the Cooper basin

Australia-listed Senex Energy said its Talaq-1 exploration well on PEL 516 in the South Australian Cooper basin had ‘exceeded’ expectations.

Senex said high gas readings were observed in the unconventional well throughout the Permian section during drilling.

Mud logs confirmed the presence of condensate, with fluorescence in the Epsilon formation demonstrating the presence of liquid hydrocarbons.

The company said it collected 320 metres of core during drilling across the Roseneath, Epsilon, Murteree and Patchawarra formations.

It added the shale and coal cores were undergoing desorption while the remaining cores were being analysed to determine formation permeability and porosity.

The well is now being cased, with the company planning to carry out hydraulic fracture stimulation later…
