Beach strikes Cooper oil

Success: Beach has hit oil in the Christies-6 development well, onshore Australia

Australia-listed Beach Energy has struck oil in the Christies-6 development well in PEL 92 in the onshore Cooper basin, South Australia.

Joint venture partner Cooper Energy said wireline logs confirmed the well had intersected a 3.8 metre gross oil column in the primary objective mid-Namur sandstone.

It added the well also encountered “encouraging” oil shows in the secondary objective Birkhead sandstone.

Cooper said the shows and wireline log response were similar to those observed in the producing Birkhead sands in other wells at the Christie oilfield and, as a result, said the Birkhead remained a target for future completion.

Christie-6 will now be cased and suspended for future completion as an oil producer…
