Brazil's Lobao 'asked to return to senate'

Return: Brazil Mines and Energy Minister Edison Lobao may step down and return to senate

Brazilian Mines and Energy Minister Edison Lobao was asked by President Dilma Rousseff to return to his seat in the senate in order to seek the presidency of that legislative body, Valor Economico newspaper reported Tuesday.

Lobao, who belongs to the same PMDB party as Rousseff's Vice President Michel Temer and Senate President Jose Sarney, has headed the ministry since 2008, after being picked for the job by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. He has headed the Ministry since Rousseff assumed the presidency in 2011.

"There is this idea that I should return to the senate," Lobao said during the Rio+20 conference on sustainability, Dow Jones quoted Valor as reporting. "I don't like that idea."
